Practitioners of psychoanalytic therapies for children and adults have tended to mix with their own kind. This lack of communication may have impeded the opportunity for valuable learning from one another. This conference will promote such a conversation by offering an opportunity for the two communities to engage in a dialogue.
Two highly skilled practitioners of contemporary psychoanalysis will present their clinical work in an exquisitely open way, allowing us to observe it from the inside.
With her paper, "We'll Just Figure it Out; Child and Adolescent Process Unwrapped", Dr. Jackie Gotthold will present her work with a child whose treatment extended through her school-age years into early adulthood.
In her paper, " Nell: A Bridge to the Amputated Self: The Impact of Immigration on the Continuities and Discontinuities of Self", Dr. Hazel Ipp describes her work with an adult whose treatment was life-changing for both patient and analyst.
After discussions of each case by senior faculty, a panel will explore how the work in these treatments overlaps and differs and what each might learn from the other. We expect a rich and thought provoking discussion which will be of value to all practitioners of psychoanalytic treatment.
