Join us in making history towards a global movement in accessible, high-quality family medicine for all!

Our second annual Walk With the Docs — Advancing Family Medicine Globally supports the College of Family Physicians of Canada's (CFPC) Besrour Centre, a hub of international collaboration that brings what the CFPC is best at, excellence in family medicine, to 400 million people around the world who don't have access to primary health care.

We know that people have better health outcomes where family medicine is well established, and that strong primary care is especially beneficial to vulnerable communities. As a wealth country, Canada has a calling to participate in advancing health care worldwide. As the voice of family medicine in Canada, the CFPC is the best organization to take the lead.

Doctors in developing countries do not have access to the resources and support for providing care that are available in Canada. We must extend all Canadian family physicians' shared values of sustainability and equity to the global community, and bring our knowledge, resources, and passion to nations that need our help the most. This is our chance to be an international leader in establishing successful and sustainable primary care around the world.

Canada is a recognized leader in training and delivering family medicine, and is a vlaued collaborative partner by countries that need our help establishing strong, successful, and supported primary care systems. The Besrour Centre will leverage this leadership to create meaningful global impact through three areas of focus:

  1. Research and quality improvement — The Centre will generate and share knowledge to strengthen health systems globally.
  2. Transformative partnerships — The Centre will engage both Canadian and international stakeholders to advocate for the common goal of robust family medicine worldwide.
  3. Advancing medical education and training — The Centre will play a leading role in developing the careers of young and emerging family medicine leaders in Canada and around the world.
