2018 Trail Raiser “ECTA’s Annual Fundraiser Hike”
Come and experience the raw natural beauty of the East
Coast Trail and the historic Town of Petty
Harbour-Maddox Cove.
- Our 2018 goal is to raise $75,000 to help maintain and
protect the East Coast Trail (ECT).
- Rally up a team of friends, family, coworkers, or just
your own two feet and join us for our annual Trail Raiser.
- Prizes awarded to the top 3 team and individual
fundraisers, all registered hikers are eligible for the draw prize(s).
- Four great hikes to choose from, including two family
hikes and two long hikes, whatever suits your fancy.
- The hikes will feature the Cape Spear & Motion Head
Paths as well as the community of Petty Harbour.
- The family hikes will include activities featuring the
Island Rooms, Petty Harbour Mini Aquarium
and Nature Conservancy.
- The after-hiking party will feature local entertainment,
a hearty lunch & the opportunity to share your hiking experience

levels based on how much you fundraise:

Participants who fundraise or donate a minimum of $250 are
eligible for ALL draw prizes!

Participants who fundraise or donate a minimum of $150 are
eligible for draw prizes at levels #2 and #3.

Also, the more you fundraise, the more times you are entered for the
prizes (you receive a ticket for every $50 you raise - so if you raise
$500 you will have more chances than if you raise $250, for example)

What you need to Know Prior to Registering

$50 minimum registration fee/donation needed to participate
in the event.
-
$250 Fundraising Target: We are asking all adult
participants to accept the challenge to raise a minimum of $250 to
help protect and maintain the trail; if you love and care
for the trail, help us meet this challenge, and if
realized, we will meet/exceed our fundraising goal for this event.
-
For every $50 donated or raised through pledges you'll get 1
ticket entered for the draw prizes on hike day (raise $500
get 10 tickets - the more money raised the better your chances to
win). Eligibility Rules: Raise $50 for draw prize #3, $150
for draw prize #2, & $250 for draw prize #1.

Hiker Special Bus: “round trip bus transportation
to event” a chargeable registration option: $10 adults, $5 for kids
13 years and under.

Hike Waiver: All hikers are required to sign a
waiver form electronically as you complete the online registration
process. If you are bringing a child/children (under 18) they have
to be identified and covered by the waiver.

Once you've registered you set up & customize
your personal or team fundraising page - where you can send emails,
manage cheque & cash pledges and view your fundraising status.

You can also collect cash & cheque
pledges. Collect the full name, mailing address and email
address of any cash or cheque donors to make sure they receive a tax receipt.

Deliver all cash and cheque pledges to the East Coast Trail
Association. All money turned in to the ECTA office (50
Pippy Place, Suite 9, St. John's) by 1:00pm on Thursday, May
31st will be eligible for fundraising prizes. All
donations made online up until 5:00pm Friday, June 1st
will be eligible for prizes. Pledges and donations will also be
accepted onsite on hike day but will not be eligible for prizes.

All registered participants are eligible for the Draw
Prizes; only active fundraisers are eligible for the
individual and team fundraising prizes; and an individual fundraiser
can win an individual prize and be a member of a winning team.

Donations and pledges $20 and over are eligible for a tax
receipt. Remember to collect the full name, address and
email address so donors can receive a tax receipt.

No pets, please. The heavy concentration of
hikers poses a safety concern for both people and pets. The buses
and the community center are unable to accommodate pets also, so
please leave your fur babies safely at home. Thank you for your
cooperation. Registered service animals are welcome.

Hike Day: How it Works (Click the links below for further details)
“Hiker Special” Bus Transport:
The provision of this service is conditional on the demand
documented during the registration process.
Hike 1: Cape Spear Path: 12 km, 4-5 hours, moderate:
Start your hike at the most easterly
point in North America! Enjoy open country hiking with expansive
sweeping views of forests and coastal heath, and a seldom seen view of
Petty Harbour.
Hike 2: Motion Path: 12.7 km, 4-5 hours, moderate
to difficult:
This path includes open barren landscape hiking and close
oceanside hiking, with stunning wave action when a big sea is on.
Enjoy sandstone boulders dotting the landscape at the Motion and a
stroll through Petty Harbour streets.
Hike 3: Family Hike to Square Rock Gulch, Maddox
Cove: 3.3 km, 1.5-2.5 hours, easy:
Gentle family coastal hike through meadow land and forest.
Incorporates ‘Pancake Trail’ on return to Petty Harbour with high
panoramic views. There will be a special family based activity on the
path held by the Nature
Conservancy of Canada.
Hike 4: Family Hike Around the Harbour, 1.5-2 km,
1.5-2 hour, easy:
Our guides from Island Rooms: Fishing
for Success will offer two activities - a wharf walk and
traditional fishing skills, including a touch tank from the Petty Harbour Mini
Aquarium! This hike is capped at 50 people including adults and children.
Safety Considerations
- Bring water, a snack and trail-rated footwear. Plan to layer
clothing appropriately for the weather
- No pets, please. The heavy concentration of hikers poses a safety
concern for both people and pets. The buses and the community
center are unable to accommodate pets also, so please leave your fur
babies safely at home. Thank you for your cooperation. Registered
service animals are welcome.
- Our volunteer trail monitors and first aiders will be located
along the trail route to support you as required.
Wrap up with a lunch and a fun-filled program at the
PH/MC Community Centre, starting at 12:30pm and ending at 2:30 pm. On
or about 1:30 pm we will stop down to thanks our sponsors and
fundraisers and to announce the winners of the fundraising prizes.
After lunch and prize announcements - buses will
return hikers to Layden’s Trucking, the Cape Spear parking lot and to
the 3 pickup locations in St. John’s.
The Community Centre will be open to receiving returning hikers from 12:00-3:00pm.
