2022 East Coast Trail "Trail Raiser Community Hike"

Long Shore Path and Piccos Ridge Path

Twenty-eight years in the making ... the creation of a world-class hiking trail on the eastern edge of the Avalon Peninsula. This year we are back in person on June 4! Join us and celebrate the East Coast Trail, a trail network that we all love and show appreciation for this resource in our province.

Come Hike and Fundraise With Us

Rally up a team of friends, family, coworkers, or just your own two feet. We are targetting a fundraising goal of $100,000 to help maintain, enhance, and develop the East Coast Trail in 2023. For example, funds raised in 2021 are being used this year to enhance Tinkers Point Path, the southern end of Bear Cove Point Path, and La Manche Village Path. These enhancements will include replacing damaged structures and clearing overgrown areas of the paths.

  • After-Hiking Celebration at Brookside Intermediate, featuring local entertainment from Youngtree and Carol Bee, a hearty lunch, a chance to share your hiking experience with others, and superb prizes!

To participate in all event day activities on June 4, you need:

  • $50 minimum donation paid or fundraised in advance
  • Enthusiasm!!
  • Wearing a non-medical mask is optional
  • Hiking supplies*

Cash and cheques will not be accepted on the event day; this will help us fast-track the check-in process.

Pledges (cash and cheques) that are received before 4 pm on June 2 are eligible for prizes, those received after this deadline are not eligible for prizes.  Note: our office will be closed on Tuesday, May 31. 

All credit card donations made online until midnight on Friday, June 3, will be eligible for prizes.

  • Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 team and individual fundraisers, all registered hikers* are eligible for the draw prize(s).
  • For every $50 raised, you will get one ticket entered for the draw prizes
  • The more you raise, the more draw prizes you are eligible for!  

*All participants who pay for or raise funds to hike are considered individual fundraisers. An individual fundraiser can win an individual prize and be a winning team member. Plus, regardless of the source of your registration fee, all hike participants are eligible for the draw prizes. See eligibility rules and pledge deadlines for prizes under "Getting Started as a Fundraiser." ECTA Staff and Board Members are not eligible for prizes.

 Fundraising Challenge

  • $100,000 Fundraising Goal
  • Minimum $50 donation - which you can pay yourself or fundraise! This is required for adults (16+) to participate in the post-hike celebration at Brookside Intermediate.
  • We also challenge all adult participants to raise $250, including the registration fee. Help us meet this challenge, and if realized, we will meet/exceed our fundraising goal of $100,000 for this fundraiser.

Hiker Waiver  All hikers must sign a waiver form electronically as they complete the online registration process. If you are bringing a child/children (under 18), they have to be identified and covered by the waiver.

All hikers (except for Hike 1 & 7) should park at Brookside Intermediate at 1165 Thorburn Road, Portugal Cove-St. Philips

Shuttle buses will take you to and from the trailhead for your hike. 

Mid-Day Event at Brookside Intermediate

Wrap up your hike with a lunch and a fun-filled program at Brookside Intermediate in PC-SP from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm. Lunch and live music by Youngtree and Carol Bee will start around 12:30 pm, and between 1-1:30 pm, we will stop down to thank our sponsors and fundraisers and to announce the winners of the fundraising prizes.

What to Know Before Registering Online   

  • All adult participants must have a $50 donation to participate in the event. Register as an individual or start/join a team (maximum of 10 people on a team).  During the online registration process, you will be asked to select the hike you want to do on June 4, or you can choose to fundraise only if you cannot join us in person.
    • You can donate during the registration process or raise the money by fundraising (pledges, donations). 
  • All ages are welcome! There will be activities for kids on the family hikes.
  • The event will be subject to the public health guidelines of the Province of Newfoundland & Labrador. If guidance restricts gatherings of this type or other adjustments must be made, participants will be notified by the East Coast Trail Association. 

Getting Started as a Fundraiser

  • Once you have registered, you will be asked to set up a personal fundraising page. You can send fundraising emails, receive credit card donations, manage pledges, and view your fundraising status. 
  • You can also collect cash & cheque pledges. Collect the full name, mailing address and email address of any cash or cheque donors to ensure they receive a tax receipt.
  • Deliver all cash and cheque pledges to the East Coast Trail Association.  All money turned in to the ECTA office (50 Pippy Place, Suite 9, St. John's) by 4:00 pm on Thursday, June 2, will be eligible for fundraising prizes. 
  • All credit card donations made online until midnight on Friday, June 3, will be eligible for prizes.
  • Cash and cheque p ledges and donations will not be accepted onsite on hike day.
  • Donations and pledges $20 and over are eligible for a tax receipt.  Remember to collect the full name, address and email address so donors can receive a tax receipt. The name on the credit card is the name on the tax receipt.
