 2024 East Coast Trail Trail Raiser Community Hike

Celebrate with us on International Trails Day, June 1st, for the annual Trail Raiser Community Hike in Bay Bulls, hosted by the East Coast Trail Association. Join a community of hikers in showcasing the beauty and challenge of the East Coast Trail. 

   

 

Come Hike and Help Us Reach Our Fundraising Goal! 

 

Our $100,000 fundraising goal will go towards the maintenance and protection of the East Coast Trail. 

 

Hike Options

There are six great hikes and one trail run to choose from (click links for more information):

Hike 1.  FAMILY HIKE on Tinkers Point Path: Tors Cove to Mobile, 5.0 km, rated easy.

Hike 2.  Mickeleens Path: Witless Bay to Bay Bulls, 10 km, rated moderate.

Hike 3.  Spout Path: Gunridge to Lighthouse at North Head return, 10.7 km, rated moderate. Note: this hike does not go to "The Spout."

Hike 4.  Tinkers Point Path and Beaches Path: Tors Cove to Witless Bay, 13.2 km, rated easy to moderate.

Hike 5. POWER HIKE Beaches Path and Mickeleens Path: Mobile to Bay Bulls, 22 km, rated moderate, for experienced hikers. Hikers must be able to sustain a pace of 4.5km/hr to register for this power hike.

Hike 6. OVERNIGHT HIKE on Spout Path: Shoal Bay Rd to Bay Bulls, 26 km, limited to 18 experienced backpacker-hikers, camping overnight May 31-June 1. Those who register for hike #6 will be vetted by a member of the team to ensure they are prepared for the overnight hike.

Trail Run 1. Mickeleens Path: Bay Bulls to Witless Bay via Mickeleens Path, to Bay Bulls via Track Road, 13 km, rated moderate

BBRLC, aka Bay Bulls Regional Lifestyle Centre, is located at 48 Cemetary Lane W, Bay Bulls.

All hikes will end at the Bay Bulls Regional Lifestyle Centre for our POST-HIKE PARTY, with a cool-down yoga session, lunch, entertainment, prizes and more!


WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

FUNDRAISING: To participate on June 1, you need A $50 minimum donation paid or fundraised in advance, though we encourage all hikers to target fundraising $250 per person and $2500 per team to help us achieve our $100,000 goal.

PRIZE ELIGIBILITY: Cash or cheque pledges received before 4 pm on May 30 are eligible for prizes. Credit card donations received before 11:59 pm May 31 (NDT) are eligible for prizes. Team prizes are eligible for teams of 10 people or less.

SHUTTLE BUS: Available from three pick-up locations in St. John’s for $10 per person; add your preferred pick-up location to cart through the registration process - exact pick-up times will be confirmed the week of May 27.

CHECK-IN: Morning check-in times on June 1 are approximated and will be confirmed the week of May 27.

ON-TRAIL SUPPORT: Trail monitors, first aid stations, a group safety sweep, and lead runner will be available and active on Trail Raiser Community Hike day.

PETS: No pets at the Trail Raiser, please. The heavy concentration of hikers poses a safety concern for both people and pets. The buses and community centre cannot accommodate pets either, so please leave pets safely at home. Thank you for your cooperation. Registered service animals are welcome.

PARKING: available only at the BBRLC, with the exception of hike 5. No parking at the trailheads for safety and emergency access. Hike 5 participants will park at Mobile High School. Shuttle buses will transport participants from the BBRLC to the hike starts and back for the lunch festivities.

TAX RECEIPTS: Donations and pledges $20 and over are eligible for a tax receipt. Collect the full name, mailing address, and email address of any cash or cheque donors to ensure they receive a tax receipt. For online donors, the name on the credit card used will be the name on the tax receipt. Shuttle bus fees are not eligible for tax receipts.

PRIZES

1. Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams of up to 10* and top three individual fundraisers; all registered hikers** are eligible for the draw prizes.

2. For every $50 raised, you will get one ticket entered in the raffle for draw prizes.

* Teams with more than ten participants are not eligible for team prizes. The individual participants will still be eligible for individual and draw prizes.

** All participants who pay or raise funds to hike are considered eligible fundraisers. An individual fundraiser can win an individual prize and be a winning team member. Plus, regardless of the source of your registration fee, all hiker participants are eligible for draw prizes. ECTA Staff and Board Members are not eligible for prizes. 

 

Early Bird Draw Prizes

Everyone registered before April 30 will receive one entry into the draw for 2 sold-out limited-edition La Manche Suspension Bridge Mugs. Draw will take place on May 1.

Early Bird 1

Everyone registered by May 8 with $50 raised will receive one entry into the draw to win one of two $250 gift cards from The Outfitters. Draw will take place on May 9. 

Everyone registered before May 22 AND with their $150 fundraised will receive one entry to win a One Night Stay in the Oceanfront Studio + Sauna Package from Cliffs Edge Retreat. Draw will take place on May 23.
