Did you know that a lot of children and youth are abused throughout their daily lives. No child deserves to be physically, emotionally, or sexually scarred by people that they look up to for safety. This is why child abuse is such an important injustice. During an individual’s childhood is when they are the most innocent and vulnerable and to rip them of their innocence by abusing them is a direct act of cruelty as the child is so easily manipulated and has no way to defend themselves. Unfortunately, around 133-275 million children worldwide were exposed to child abuse in 2005 according to UNICEF, but it is not just internationally. In Canada alone neglect has been reported as the most common type of child abuse to social workers, this is an injustice that is occurring in our own neighbourhood that many people are not aware of. Around 1 in 3 children in Canada are likely to experience some form of child neglect or abuse, most of which goes unnoticed. This percent is so disturbing because that means there is a great chance that more than one of the people you know have experienced some form of child abuse.
