We had a surgical mission planned for April 2020 and had to delay it.  I will be participating in a medical/ surgical relief and education mission with members of Team Broken Earth Vancouver in October 2022.

This is my second year participating in Team Broken Earth in Guatemala City.  We provide surgeries to those with little or no access to care.

Our previous surgical mission allowed us to perform 73 surgeries in less than one week. My previous mission gave me  a unique perspective on how challenging access to healthcare can be. For example, a female patient had to ride a bus  for three hours and then walk for three hours to get to us. She then completed that same journey to return home 1 day after major abdominal surgery. We were able to help children use their limbs again, or eat food. Tumours were removed.  But even in fear filled moments before their anesthetic, the patients said thank you. It is such a priviledge to be involved with the care of these patients, and I am so excited to return as part of the team.
