On a sunny Sunday morning on November 6, 2016 I was riding along River Road in Richmond, BC, when I and the five other team members I was riding with were hit by a 19 year old who had fallen asleep at the wheel after staying up all night at a Casino. My friend, Bradley Dean, who was on my rear wheel passed away from the impact. Another one of my friends, John White, was in front of me and was seriously injured. He is still recovering from the impact but will also be riding today.
I sustained life threatening injuries and was taken to hospital in critical condition before going into a coma. It is only due to the first responders, surgeons, doctors and all medical staff of our hospitals that I am still alive. Thank you.
A special note to Dr. Trevor Stone who skillfully and extensively operated on me to repair my right leg, left ankle and pelvis, all which required metal supports. He is also riding today and epitomizes what a great cause this is and how lucky we are to have the health system here in the lower mainland that we do. You never know when you will need them but when you do they will save your life.
I am riding in the Wheel 2 Heal 2018 to raise money for Eagle Ridge Hospital Foundation and those people that saved my life and put me back together. If you're sponsoring from overseas, you can just enter your domestic credit card and the clever people at Visa or Mastercard will work out the exchange rate and do the rest!
