I'm walking for prostate cancer survivors!
While we all wait for the COVID-19 pandemic to end, men all across Canada are facing an uncertain future with a prostate cancer diagnosis. Yes there are treatment options, but the reality is cancer is cancer, and we all know there is no vaccine for it! Prostate cancer is the #1 cancer for men and the second leading cause of cancer death. 1 in 9 Canadian men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime.
Now more than ever men are feeling alone in their cancer fight. With other resources at a minimum, the new Prostate Cancer Support Canada organization, united by Prostate Cancer BC, has continued to step up their services. When Prostate Cancer Support groups across Canada were forced to suspend in person support group meetings, they went online. These volunteer groups gathered speakers from all corners of the globe to provide the best support to anyone who needs it.
I will continue to walk and fundraise; but it's not enough. I need your help now more than ever. As we move closer to Father’s Day, I am asking you to step up the fight against prostate cancer and support the men you love.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
Support me and make a donation to Prostate Cancer Foundation BC's 23rd Annual Father’s Day Walk/Run for Prostate Cancer via my personal web page below. Funds raised this year will go to directly support the Prostate Cancer Support groups across Canada.
WHY AM I PARTICIPATING IN THE RUN?
Because this run is for the tens of thousands of Canadian men living courageously with prostate cancer and their families. It’s for all the men who have died from this disease and the families who have lost loved ones. It’s for the roughly 26,000 men who will be diagnosed in 2021 and everyone who cares about them. Prostate Cancer Support groups across Canada provide the much needed support and guidance for the many men and their families who continue to be impacted by this disease.
PCS Toronto is one of these groups and we have continued to provide support to prostate cancer survivors throughout this pandemic, not only in Toronto thanks to the extended reach of our online meeting platform.
THE FATHER'S DAY WALK RUN EVENT
Is an annual event hosted by Prostate Cancer Foundation BC, a volunteer based organization that now supports prostate cancer patients, their families and communities across Canada through the new Prostate Cancer Support Canada organization. Even if you aren’t a walker or a runner, you can still step up and volunteer or consider donating.
Every donation, big or small, will have a huge impact for men and their families dealing with a prostate cancer diagnosis in Canada.
Thank you in advance for your generosity and for giving the men in your life the gift of health this Father's Day.
