Please assist me in supporting Access Pro Bono and its mission to increase access to justice in BC while raising public awareness of the need for greater legal aid funding. This September, Access Pro Bono will hold the 12th Annual Pro Bono Going Public—an outdoor free legal advice-a-thon. This event is held in Surrey, Vancouver and Kelowna over the course of two weeks. Over 100 volunteer lawyers will provide free legal advice to low- and modest-income individuals, including the homeless at these outdoor legal advice clinics.
During these times of limited access to justice, the demand for free legal services grows each day. Access Pro Bono is committed to meeting this demand by operating over 110 legal advice clinics throughout BC in addition to several BC-wide representation programs.
It is a testament to the charitable nature of BC's legal profession that our province boasts the largest network of pro bono legal services in Canada. Unfortunately, institutional funding for pro bono programs is increasingly scarce. So Access Pro Bono has come to rely more and more on public awareness and fundraising campaigns like this one in order to balance its budget.
Although I myself am unable to provide legal advice at this event, I want to show my support for this cause by fundraising on behalf of Access Pro Bono and to help in raising awarenss of the great work that this organization does. Please help me to reach my fundraising goal by donating to this worthy cause and by demonstrating your support of my commitment to access to justice and pro bono legal services in BC.
