Mental illness is one of the most silent and misunderstood illness.
Mental disorders are the single most common cause of disability in young people. The adolescent years are a critical window in which mental health problems can be addressed from further promotion.
If left untreated, mental illness can hinder all aspects of health, leaving the children and youth of our community feeling socially isolated, vulnerable and unable to connect with society.
Early identification and proper diagnosis and mental health treatments have been shown to be effective in young people. The continuum of the treatment and support is imperative to help treat the mental illness of the youth.
Here's the problem A groundbreaking number of youths are showing up in emergency rooms seeking help with mental health. Currently, Surrey and the Fraser Valley usually have no psychiatry beds available for the youth to get the proper treatment they need.
So the question goes:
Will they get admitted or will they be sent home?
The Globalizers club from Semiahmoo Secondary is trying to raise money to help youth people in our community suffering from mental illness.

Health care in Surrey has changed! This community is now home to many specialized programs to provide care closer to home for newborns, children, adults and seniors from across Fraser Health.
Surrey Memorial Hospital is a recently transformed acute care hospital, and the Jim Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgery Centre is a state-of-the-art facility for clinic visits, diagnostic tests and day surgeries. Together, they form BC's largest health care campus outside of Vancouver, and BC's newest teaching centre.
Our donors make a difference by helping the Foundation support innovative equipment and projects that help Fraser Health to attract the best doctors and health care professionals to work in Surrey.
