UPDATE - MARCH 11, 2020: Because of the global COVID-19 pandemic, our mission has been postponed. We will be rescheduling for either September 2020 or January 2021. All donations will still go to the upcoming trip. Thank you for your support. Stay Tuned!
In April 2020, I will have the privelege of joining 36 other nurses and doctors on my 3rd medical mission to Guatemala City! As a group we will perform up to 75 surgeries over 5 days. I will once again be part of the pediatric plastic surgery team, where we will provide cleft lip and palate repairs to vulnerable indigenous infants and toddlers.
Our fundraising (as a team and as individuals) will cover the cost of different aspects of our mission: primarily, in purchasing equipment and supplies. This includes everything from sutures to sterile drapes to anesthetic drugs. Our team is responsible for "outfitting" the hospital with everything we will need during our 5 days of work. In addition, the money we raise will pay for the transportation of 75 patients and their families, who will be driven from their remote villages to our hospital and back home again once they have recovered.
I have created my own fundraising page to collect donations in support of this effort.
Team Broken Earth provides medical care and education in disaster stricken and developing nations. Our missions focus on providing much needed care to those most in need, and supporting and reinforcing the healthcare system in some of the poorest countries in the world.
