We are so excited to be participating in the Waterloo Wellington Down Syndrome Society’s annual fundraiser - the Any Which Way You Can A-thon.
The WWDSS is a non-profit organization that directly supports members of our community with Down syndrome, and their families. It provides programs, classes and events to its members and their families/caregivers. They receive no government funding and rely solely on donations.
One of the most important things they provide are bursaries. These help cover some of the many expenses that accumulate for therapy, appointments, and equipment. To give you an example: Everett is 3.5 years old. He currently attends physiotherapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy. He has glasses, custom foot & ankle orthotics (which cost roughly $3000 and will need to be replaced multiple times as he grows), and will likely require hearing aids in the near future. Our family is fortunate to have medical benefits to help cover these costs. For families without benefits, the out-of-pocket costs quickly add up, and these bursaries help relieve the financial strain these families face.
If you have room in your charitable budget, and are looking for a local cause to support, I would be so grateful if you would consider donating to our team. It will truly make a difference.
With gratitude,
Everett & the Kocher Family
