My name is Cassandra (Cassie) Bullet. I am a 23-year-old university student from Kingston, but I am currently attending the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton. I expect to graduate in the spring of 2016. My area of study is Psychology with a specialization in Neuroscience. After having struggled with major anxiety and depression since childhood I was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) last year. I do not know what it is like to live without anxiety. It has affected my life for so long. The recent events that have led to my current condition have left me with difficulty going into public places alone, such as going to my classes or to the grocery store. Travelling to my hometown for holidays is a huge struggle but some days even just getting up in the morning can be a daunting. Despite my challenges I am still your average girl. I enjoy music and theatre, Star Wars, and knitting. I am also as involved as I can be at my university. I am a member of the UNB student union’s mental health committee, which was established to promote positive mental health awareness on campus in an effort to reduce the stigma it carrys with it. As a psychology student, I am also involved in research projects and have been giving my time to help out in laboratory studies. Often times my involvement with these activities is highly affected by my anxiety and other symptoms related to PTSD. To have a constant four-legged companion has been a dream for so long and I am still in awe that I am on the waiting list for one! Having a service dog will provide me with support in my daily activities and help enhance my involvement in them by making me feel safe, by alerting to the beginning of panic attacks or dissociations and by keeping me grounded during these episodes.
I am so excited to be given this opportunity and overwhelmed by the support K4Paws has provided throughout process.
