When the firefighters found Virginia, her
  heart wasn’t beating.
Her apartment caught on fire while she was
sleeping. On top of cardiac arrest, she also suffered burns, a brain
injury, carbon monoxide and cyanide poisoning.

    No one

   expected her to survive.
After a long hospital stay, she was moved to Bruyère.
At first, she couldn’t breathe on her own. She spent two years on a
ventilator. It was heartbreaking for her family to see her like that.
But something incredible happened: our care
teams stabilized her to the point where she could begin rehabilitation!
Slowly, she learned to breathe on her own
again. Then, she worked with speech therapists to relearn how to
speak, and physiotherapists to relearn how to walk.
We watched in awe as she became independent
again. And after only one year of rehabilitation, she was discharged!
The goal for Virginia was long-term care.
But today, she’s living in her own apartment! Not to mention
celebrating the holidays at home with her family.
Her recovery was made possible by the
support she received from the amazing doctors, nurses and staff at Bruyère.
But truth is, the support she received at Bruyère is only
possible because of the generosity of people like YOU.
Your gifts help us make sure that
life-changing health care is available for each and every person who
  needs it in our region.
This holiday season, will you consider giving a gift of $50,
$75, $100, or maybe even $200 to provide hope and healing for more
patients like Virginia and their families?
One of the ways your donation will be put
to use is to help purchase new ventilators like the kind that
  stabilized Virginia!
An incredible gift that will help our
patients and their families breathe a little easier.
Thank you, and happy holidays!
