Every year, over 1 million burn injuries occur in Sub-Saharan Africa,
often leading to long-term disabilities, especially in children. The
Africa Burn Project is dedicated to changing this reality by providing
reconstructive surgery for children with burn contractures and
training healthcare professionals in burn care and reconstruction.
Our team has been actively working in Mbarara, Uganda, where we
conduct missions to treat burn contractures and train surgeons and
therapists from countries with limited access to surgical care. We've
organized surgical skills labs for acute burn surgery management in
Yaounde, Cameroon, and have welcomed surgeons from across the region
to learn vital techniques for contracture release and rehabilitation.
In 2023 a surgeon and physiotherapist from the Democratic Republic of
Congo joined our mission to learn splinting and rehabilitation
techniques to prevent burn contractures. To ensure lasting impact, we
provide these teams with essential equipment, education and
supplies—like specialized skin graft knives and splint-making tools—so
they can continue this important work when they return home.
Your support is crucial to our mission. By donating today, you can
help us provide critical surgeries and training that will transform
lives and prevent the long-term effects of burn injuries. Together, we
can make a profound difference in the lives of children and
communities across Sub-Saharan Africa. Thank you for your generosity!
