Meet Jake
Hi! I’m Jake. I’m 13 years old and in Grade 8. I was diagnosed with autism in 2019, and while life brings both challenges and joys, one thing that always helps me most is being with dogs — especially my family dog, Charlie. I’ve learned that dogs are what help me feel calm, safe, and happy when things get hard. That’s why I’m so excited to be on the waitlist for a service dog from Kingston 4 Paws.
Why a Service Dog Matters
I’ve already made a lot of adjustments to help myself manage school and other public settings. I’ve learned strategies to cope with noise, changes in routine, and social situations, and I’ve worked hard to get through challenges. Even so, school can still be hard for me. There are always moments that feel overwhelming, and situations that are difficult to manage on my own.
A service dog will make a big difference by:
Helping me stay calm when I feel anxious, upset, or overstimulated
Giving me space to take breaks when things get too noisy or overwhelming
Providing comfort and focus when I need help regulating my emotions
Making social situations easier, since people naturally connect through dogs
Dogs help me feel grounded and understood in a way nothing else can. A trained service dog will help me manage daily life more confidently — at school, in public, and beyond.
How You Can Help
Kingston 4 Paws does incredible work, but each service dog costs around $20,000 to train, and they rely on donations to make this possible for families like mine.
Your support will help me — and others like me — receive a service dog who will make every day calmer, safer, and brighter.
Thank you so much for helping make my dream come true.
Jake
