New Haven founded in 1998, is a private, non-profit centre for individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The Centre's primary mission is to provide children with autism a comprehensive one-to-one education and treatment program based on the scientifically validated procedures of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA). Among the first of only a few centres in Canada to offer an ABA program, New Haven has become the prototype for how to best understand the disorder and treat children who are affected. Children's health professionals consider New Haven Learning Centre to be the "gold standard in Canada".
Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) places autism rates among U.S. children at 1 in 91, with autism now affecting 1 in 58 boys. More children will be diagnosed with autism this year than with AIDS, diabetes and cancer combined.
