Yes, I want to help conquer coronavirus!
First identified in Wuhan, China in December 2019, novel
coronavirus has infected more than 79,000 people to date, and has
taken over 2,000 lives in a short time - more than double that of the
2003 SARS-CoV outbreak. While most cases have been recorded in
mainland China, international travel has contributed to confirmed
cases of novel coronavirus in more than two-dozen countries.
As an internationally acclaimed institution for research in
infection, immunity, inflammation and vaccinology, Dalhousie is a
global leader in the discoveries and development of new vaccines,
antiviral drugs and other life-saving viral therapies. For example,
Dalhousie researchers recently led the development of novel
cancer-fighting viruses, which are now being used to treat advanced
melanoma. They also brought the first effective Ebola vaccine to
first-in-human clinical trials, in partnership with the Canadian
Centre for Vaccinology (IWK Health Centre). With a pipeline of
world-leading research and development already established, Dalhousie
researchers are well positioned to successfully halt the current
coronavirus outbreak through the discovery of effective vaccines and
Dalhousie researchers are actively pursuing the rapid development of
vaccines, antivirals and therapeutics for coronavirus, to curtail the
outbreak on a global scale. Your generosity can help support this
