Alex and NSD Icon
Alex in the driver's seat. Alex loves
riding on OC Transpo.
Alex is a delightful 12 year old who is
diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Alex has limited verbal
speech that makes it difficult for him to communicate.
We were delighted to announce that Alex received his National Service
Dog, Icon, in April, 2017.! Icon will make a great difference in
Alex’s life in many ways.
Right now we can see that Alex is lonely. It’s hard for people to
know how to engage with him. Icon will be a natural bridge for
conversation as well as providing companionship.
Alex loves to go on long walks. Unfortunately, his family doesn’t
always have the time or energy to go with him. Due to his limited
understanding of personal safety and his tendency to wander away in
the blink of an eye, he must be accompanied at all times. Icon can go
with him, allowing him more independence while keeping him safe.
Icon will provide a visual cue to others that Alex has special needs
instantly allowing for more understanding and awareness.
Please help by donating whatever you can for Alex and his new best friend.
