Parker will be the first one to offer you a high-five with a big
smile from ear to ear. He is a bright, social and enthusiastic 6 year
old boy from Niagara Falls; who loves being around animals and people.
Parker is non-verbal yet he is able let you know what he wants and
needs. He is unable to walk independently so he uses a walker and
wheelchair to navigate his world. We are so grateful he is on the wait
list for a mobility service dog from Kingston 4 Paws Service Dogs.
Recently Parker was diagnosed with Cockayne syndrome. Cockayne
syndrome is a rare condition which causes short stature, premature
aging (progeria), severe photosensitivity, and moderate to severe
learning delay. This syndrome also includes failure to thrive in the
neonate, microcephaly, and impaired nervous system development.
When we first started the process for applying for a mobility service
dog it was for Parker to gain safe independence. With his mobility
issues he is dependant on others all the time and his love of dogs it
just made sense. A mobility service dog will give him that safe
independence. When we received the diagnosis of Cockayne syndrome we
quickly realized Parker is also getting a non-judgemental companion
who will also help him in so many ways we cannot. Kingston 4 Paws
Service Dogs are training his four legged companion to assist him in
various ways including retrieving dropped items, turning on lights,
opening doors, helping him regain balance if he falls, helping Parker
up and down from the ground, assist with the incline of ramps, and so
We are all excited for this journey and cannot wait to see how a
mobility service dog will change Parker and our lives for the best.
Thank you in advance for the donations made to Kingston 4 Paws Service
Dogs in honour of Parker 4 Parker. It is truly heart warming to know
