My husband has Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. He doesn’t
like to talk about his past or the horrific events that led to this
diagnosis, so I’m stepping in to tell you a bit about him. He is a
wonderful husband and father, an avid outdoorsman, a public speaker,
and has worked with teens and young adults for over 30 years. He has
always managed his symptoms by being outside, walking in the woods,
surfing, and taking time to himself.
After the birth of our first child Dave’s symptoms escalated. His
need to protect this small miracle from harm triggered more and more
of his more severe symptoms (ie. Dissociations, anxiety, etc.). Over
the past 14 years Dave’s C-PTSD has steadily gotten worse and we
really saw no hope in recovery. Nothing we tried seemed to work.
Dave’s doctors all agreed that a service dog was his best option of
treatment but we had no idea how to find one, or where to look. In
2014 Dave met a young woman from Kingston 4 Paws Service Dogs at a
local coffee shop and immediately started a conversation. The news
that K 4 Paws trained dogs for people with his diagnosis was life
changing. We are so excited to be on the waiting list for a dog.
At a fundraiser, K4Paws allowed Dave to use a service dog for the day
and the change it made in him brought me to tears. He was his best
self again. Please help us raise money for Dave’s dog so that he can
go forward with a new sense of confidence, purpose, and get back to
living the life he was destined to life.
With all of my thanks, Steph (Dave’s wife)
