Paws 4 Thomas

Thomas is a grade 10 student at Saganoska Demonstration School in Belleville. This is a residential program and he attends Monday to Friday.   He misses his family, having familiar faces and interaction with those he knows and trusts.  He is having limited success in attending. Thomas is struggling with loneliness of being different. As a result of his various conditions, he is overwhelmed and finds new situations , people  and change extremely difficult. We are striving to help Thomas to complete his high school diploma.   He has been out of school the past  4 years. He has the capability of attending college if he can get through high school.

Thomas is a kind and very loving boy but has major social anxiety, generalized anxiety and depression among other diagnoses. His struggle to make connections in the real world and interact in society is the most debilitating problem he has.

This does not stop his family from loving him and pushing him to reach his potential.  As Thomas ages, he is aware and often reminded of how lonely he is.  He understands the exclusion and isolation that is happening to him in life. Thomas desperately wants to attend school, interact with peers and function independently. Thomas’ family is starting to prepare Thomas for the most successful independent life possible.   We believe that a service dog can help with all of this.  It can make a huge difference in his everyday life.

Thomas has, with the help of his family been trying to raise money for his service dog. Thomas has been actively been out soliciting donations, and has even been selling hand made dog leashes to assist with funding. This is a big step and a hard venture given all his limitations. His family values supporting Kingston 4 Paws as another avenue for Thomas to engage with the real world. It’s an invaluable lesson for him to help to learn to give back and for him to help himself as much as possible. His family will always continue to love and support him, and along with Thomas are willing to work hard to achieve fund raising goals to support this program
