My name is Naomie. I am 14 years old and I am autistic. I was
diagnosed at around 9 years old and since then, I have embraced my
identity as an autistic person. I love to write and draw. I also like
listening to music and playing video games, like most teenagers.
After submitting an application to Kingston 4 Paws Service Dogs my
family was contacted to arrange a home visit. We discussed the
possibility of receiving a service dog and I was thrilled. Although I
work very hard to live up to societal standards, I still struggle with
things such as hypersensitivity, mobility issues and anxiety. I like
going to school but I have to say that it is a daily challenge to have
to manage my struggles. It takes up a lot of my energy, and is also
very demanding on my mental health.
After having a nice chat with some of the people at Kingston 4 Paws,
we have determined that getting a service dog would be beneficial to
my daily life in many good ways. Getting a service dog to me would be
like starting my journey towards further understanding myself and
reaching my goals. Getting a service dog would help in things such as
managing meltdowns, helping me go through generally difficult
situations, and would also provide a friend that will stay with me no
matter what.
After high school, I intend to study psychology in the hopes of
eventually getting a PHD and focusing my research on the areas of the
autism spectrum. I want to thank Kingston 4 Paws for helping people
like me. I feel grateful and I cannot wait to start this journey.
Sincerely,
Naomie
