My Story
In 2019, I was involved in a serious workplace accident that resulted
in a permanent traumatic brain injury. This injury affected areas of
my brain responsible for balance and cognitive function. Despite years
of rehabilitation, my balance has not improved. As a result, I have
experienced multiple significant falls, many of which have led to
further injuries and required surgical intervention.
After careful assessment, my medical team has strongly recommended
the use of a mobility service dog. They believe that a professionally
trained service dog would significantly reduce the frequency of my
falls by providing real-time balance support, as well as improve my
overall safety and independence.
Following this recommendation, I applied to Kingston 4 Paws Service
Dogs, a reputable charitable organization that provides highly trained
service dogs to individuals with disabilities. After reviewing my
medical history and application, and attending my residence for a home
visit, I was approved in 2026, to receive a mobility service dog. In
addition to mobility support, my service dog will also be trained to
assist in managing my PTSD symptoms, both during the day and at night.
Organizations like K4Paws rely entirely on donations to continue
their important work. The cost of raising and training a mobility
service dog can exceed $25,000, reflecting the years of specialized
training required to ensure each dog can safely and effectively
support its handler.
Receiving a trained mobility service dog will be life-changing. It
will provide me with greater confidence and stability, helping to
prevent falls and reduce the likelihood of further injuries or
surgeries. More importantly, it will allow me to regain a level of
independence and quality of life that has been difficult to maintain
since my accident.
I am so grateful to have been accepted into the program by K4Paws and
I am committed to engaging in fundraising efforts so that others in
similar situations can have the same life-changing opportunity I have
been given. My ability to receive this service dog is only possible
because of the generosity of donors who have supported K4Paws over the
years and it is my desire to continue with that “pay it forward” philosophy.
Please donate today to help me reach my fundraising goal. Every
donation helps regardless of its size.
Thank you for reading my story,
Edward
