DESCRIPTION:Parasomnia and the Wrongful Conviction of Oscar Pistorius:\n  Illuminating Insights from Dream and Sleep Science\nA Canada-South Africa Dialogue\nSaturday\, November 18\, 2023\n9-11:30 a.m. EST\, 3-5:30 p.m. SAST \n\n  Via ZOOM VIDEOCONFERENCE\n\nABOUT THIS PRESENTATION\nMental health\, legal professionals\, and others frequently have\n  insufficient knowledge of disorders of sleep and dreaming--leading to\n  significant oversights\, and miscarriages of justice.  This day will\n  provide an overview of parasomnia\, then re-examine a well-known case.\n\n  ABOUT THE SPEAKERS\n\n\n  \n    Dr Alison Bentley ran the first diagnostic sleep\n    laboratory in South Africa.  She headed Wits University School of\n    Physiology's Sleep Laboratory\, was the founding chairperson of the\n    Sleep Society of South Africa\, and represented Africa on the\n    governing council of the World Association of Sleep Medicine.  She\n    has published many articles and book chapters on sleep and sleep\n    disorders in lay media and scientific journals and has contributed\n    over 40 invited conference presentations.  She edits Sleep Matters\,\n    a publication sent to 2000 doctors quarterly.\n  \n    Dr Brent Willock\, Past President\, Toronto Institute\n    for Contemporary Psychoanalysis\, taught at the University of\n    Michigan\, University of Toronto\, and Adelphi University.  He has\n    authored scientific articles\, chapters\, edited books\, and 2 volumes:\n    Comparative-Integrative Psychoanalysis: and The Wrongful Conviction\n    of Oscar Pistorius: Science Transforms our Comprehension of Reeva\n    Steenkamp's Shocking Death.  His contributions have been honored\n    with awards from the Ontario/Canadian/American Psychoanalytic\n    Education\, The Chicago Institute for Psychoanalysis\, The University\n    of Chicago.\n   \n\n\n  ONLINE ADVANCE REGISTRATION REQUIRED\n\nZoom link will be provided to registrants. \n416.288.8060    |   admin@ticp.ca    |    www.ticp.on.ca
