DESCRIPTION:The Offshore Personal Survival Course (2 days) is\n  for experienced sailors who are participating in offshore and oceanic\n  races and passages\, typically Offshore Special Regulations categories\n  0-1-2.  The course includes classroom and practical sessions.  Topics\n  covered include personal safety equipment\, man overboard\, emergency\n  communications &amp\; signals\, search &amp\; rescue\, weather forecasts\,\n  heavy weather &amp\; storm sails\, damage control &amp\; fire\,\n  hypothermia &amp\; cold water immersion.  Practical\, hands-on sessions\n  include using lifejackets and life rafts in a pool environment\; damage\n  control\; emergency signals.  This 2 day course is Sail Canada\n    - World Sailing Approved.  Participants who successfully\n  complete the course receive an Offshore Personal Survival Course\n  certificate\, valid for five years.  \n\n  Background\n\nSailors around the world take offshore personal survival training\n  (a.k.a. Sea Survival\, Safety at Sea) to prepare themselves and their\n  boats.  Offshore personal survival training courses are offered for\n  sailors in many countries\, including Australia\, Canada\, France\,\n  Germany\, Great Britain\, Hong Kong\, Italy\, New Zealand\, Sweden\, and the\n  United States.  Some sailing event organizers recommend or require\n  offshore personal survival training for participating crews.  World\n  Sailing specifies offshore personal survival training requirements in\n  section 6 of the Offshore Special Regulations\, and outlines a model\n  course in Appendix G of those regulations.  \nIn British Columbia\, the Vic-Maui\n    International Yacht Race and the Van Isle 360 International Yacht\n  Race require some crew members to hold current Offshore Personal\n  Survival Course (2 day) certificates\, and the Southern Straits Yacht\n    Race\, Swiftsure\n    International Yacht Race\, and Patos Island Race require or\n  recommend personal survival training (half day\, one day\, two days).  \n\n  Course Information\n\nComprehensive information about this course is available at Offshore\n    Personal Survival Course.  Please pay extra attention to the\n  Participant Requirements which are available at OPSC\n    Participant Requirements.   \nIf you have any questions\, please contact us by email at sas@bcsailing.bc.ca.
