LOCATION:Yachting Centre\, 5854 Marine Drive\, West Vancouver\, BC
DESCRIPTION:The Coastal Personal Survival Course is intended for\n  sailors who are participating in World Sailing Offshore Special\n  Regulations (OSR) Category 3-4 and/or US SER Coastal Category passages\n  or events such as the Southern Straits Race\, Patos Island Race\, and\n  Swiftsure Race.  The seminar includes both classroom and practical\n  sessions and is Sail Canada approved. \nCoastal Personal Survival Course topics include a review of\n  required/recommended safety equipment\, preparing heavy weather sails\,\n  obtaining and interpreting local weather forecasts\, hypothermia and\n  cold water immersion\, crew overboard\, emergency signals and communications.  \nParticipants are required to bring to the course the personal safety\n  gear that they intend to use in the Southern Straits Race\, Patos\n  Island Race\, Swiftsure Race\, or a similar overnight\, near-coastal\n  passage or event.  This should include a suitable PFD\, safety harness\,\n  tether\, and personal MOB light.  Wet weather gear and warm clothing\n  are required for the outdoor practicals.  \nIf you do not already own all the required clothing and equipment\, it\n  is recommended that you consider borrowing any needed items from a\n  friend rather than buying new items before the course. While we do not\n  make recommendations on specific brands and models\, you will learn\n  more about important characteristics of personal safety equipment and\n  this may influence your thinking on equipment selection.\n- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -\n  - - -\nPrice includes course participation\, refreshments and lunch\, and upon\n  successful completion a course certificate valid for five years. \nRegistrations are cancellable and refundable\, less a 20%\n  administration fee\, until 7 calendar days prior to the training start date. \nTo be valid\, cancellation and refund requests must be delivered by\n  email to sas@bcsailing.bc.ca and\n  receipt acknowledged within the required time frame.  \nFor the benefit of participants and event organizing authorities\, BC Sailing and Sail Canada may maintain a\n  publicly-searchable database listing participant names\, certificate\n  numbers and certificate expiry dates. \n- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -\n  - - - \nThe Coastal Personal Survival Course does not include pool\n  sessions or life raft training\, and does not meet the World Sailing\n  requirements for OSR Category 0-1-2 offshore and oceanic races such as\n  the Van Isle 360\, Vic-Maui\, Pacific Cup\, Transpac\, etc.  To choose the\n  right training\, please visit this Personal\n    Survival Training Introduction.  \n \n
