DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:The Coastal Personal Survival Course is intended for=0D=0A  sailors who are participating in World Sailing Offshore Special=0D=0A  Regulations (OSR) Category 3-4 and/or US SER Coastal Category passages=0D=0A  or events such as the Southern Straits Race, Patos Island Race, and=0D=0A  Swiftsure Race.  The seminar includes both classroom and practical=0D=0A  sessions and is Sail Canada approved. =0D=0A=0D=0ACoastal Personal Survival Course topics include a review of=0D=0A  required/recommended safety equipment, preparing heavy weather sails,=0D=0A  obtaining and interpreting local weather forecasts, hypothermia and=0D=0A  cold water immersion, crew overboard, emergency signals and communications.  =0D=0A=0D=0AParticipants are required to bring to the course the personal safety=0D=0A  gear that they intend to use in the Southern Straits Race, Patos=0D=0A  Island Race, Swiftsure Race, or a similar overnight, near-coastal=0D=0A  passage or event.  This should include a suitable PFD, safety harness,=0D=0A  tether, and personal MOB light.  Wet weather gear and warm clothing=0D=0A  are required for the outdoor practicals.  =0D=0A=0D=0AIf you do not already own all the required clothing and equipment, it=0D=0A  is recommended that you consider borrowing any needed items from a=0D=0A  friend rather than buying new items before the course.
