DESCRIPTION:\n  \n    This workshop is in partnership with\n  \n\n\n  \n    Wilfrid Laurier University Faculty of Social Work\n      Professional Development \n  \n\n\n  \n  Wednesday\, 21st January 2026\n  \n  10:00 am to 4:00 p.m. ET | Online \n  \n  \n     Presented by Mary Anne Caibaiosai\, MSW\, PhD Candidate\n  \n\n\n  \n  \n  Description\n\n\n  \n    \n      \n        In this workshop\, \n        Mary Anne \n        Caibaiosai\n         will \n        share spiritual\n          practices that \n        Anishinaabe \n        people follow in\n          times of illness\, death in the family and community and\n         \n        explore \n        how\n         \n        some of these practices\n         can be applied\n          in your own life\n         and professional practice.\n         Some ceremonies\n          and practices \n        she \n        will describe are \n        intended to\n          inform social workers of ways they can mindfully guide\n          Indigenous clients to Elders and communities that\n         may offer these practices. \n      \n       \n    \n  \n  \n    \n      \n        Using the \n        holistic\n         framework of the \n        medicine wheel\n         to guide this workshop\n        \, participants\n          will learn: \n      \n       \n    \n  \n  \n    \n      \n        \n          \n            How to \n            identify\n             the varying\n              forms of grief\, and beyond the realm of bereavement\n            \,\n             that \n            affect\n             all aspects\n              of who we are\n          \n           \n        \n      \n    \n  \n  \n    \n      \n        \n          \n            Anishinaabe\n             \n            spiritual\n              practices and ceremonies \n            that aim \n            to reduce\n              emotional heaviness\, mental anguish\, spiritual \n            darkness\n             and physical\n              pain that comes from holding grief and loss in our being\n          \n           \n        \n      \n    \n  \n  \n    \n      \n        \n          \n            Holistic\n             practices\n              that everyone can seek out in their own lives\, and to help\n              others\, including going to the land\n          \n           \n        \n      \n    \n  \n  \n    \n      \n        \n          \n            C\n            eremonial\n              practices Anishinaabe embrace as ways to \n            honour\n             our\n              ancestors\, to \n            honour\n             ourselves\,\n              the generations behind us and those yet to come\n          \n           \n        \n      \n    \n  \n\n\n  \n    \n      P\n      articipants will \n      also \n      be \n      invited\n       to shar\n      e\n       practices they use to \n      support loss and\n        grief\, as well as practices related to\n       death and bereavement\n      .\n    \n     \n  \n\n\n  Presenter Bio\n\n\n  \n    \n      \n        Mary Anne is\n          Ojibwe-Anishinaabe of the Bear clan from \n        Wiikwemkoong\n         Unceded\n          Territory and \n        Sagamok\n         First Nations.\n          She currently \n        reside\n         as a visitor and\n          PhD Candidate at Trent University \n        on\n         Michi \n        Saagiig\n         Anishinaabeg\n          territory. She holds a Bachelor of First Nations and\n          Aboriginal Counseling Degree\, Brandon University\, a Master of\n          Social Work Indigenous Field of Study Degree\, Wilfrid Laurier\n          University and two diplomas from Algonquin College in Creative\n          Arts and Secretarial Science.\n      \n       \n    \n  \n  \n    \n      \n        Mary Anne carries\n          traditional teachings\, ceremonies\, protocols\, and life\n          teachings from Anishinaabe Elders and Midewiwin knowledge\n          keepers. Her community helper work is supported by her life\n          experiences as a survivor of the residential school and the\n          sixties scoop systems.
