DESCRIPTION:\n \n \n Dyslexia\, reading development\, and language use—what\n editors should know \n \n \n\nWhen:  Wednesday\, November 15\, 6:00 to 7:00 pm PST\n            Please note the early start time!\n\nWhere: Online through Zoom \n \n \n\nCost:    Editors Canada members\, free\; non-members\, $10\; student\n non-members\, $5\nThis month\, we explore common myths and facts surrounding dyslexia.\n With early identification and support\, children with dyslexia can\n learn to read well. Unfortunately\, most children across Canada are not\n properly identified and supported.  Alicia Smith of Dyslexia Canada\n sheds light on the impacts of unsupported dyslexia on literacy\n outcomes across Canada and explores practical\, evidence-based\n solutions. This talk provides an essential foundation for editors who\n want a better understanding of this common learning difference and\n will interest anyone wishing to promote literacy and inclusivity in\n our communities.  \n\n Alicia Smith is the executive director of Dyslexia\n Canada and past president of the International Dyslexia Association\n Ontario. Alicia is a passionate advocate dedicated to advancing\n literacy and equity in education and ensuring that children with\n dyslexia and others facing literacy challenges receive essential\n support and instruction. Her accomplishments include founding the\n Ontario Literacy Alliance\, collaborating closely with the Ministry of\n Education to revise the Ontario Language Curriculum\, and organizing\n webinars and workshops for educators to enhance evidence-based reading\n instruction and assessment. \n\n Note: Editors BC will record this meeting. Editors\n Canada members can view the recording for 30 days by logging in to the\n Editors Canada website and going to the Editors BC Branch page.
