DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE: Crafting Narrative Arc in Memoir =0D=0A=0D=0AWhen:  Wednesday, February 18, 7:00 to 8:00 pm PST=0D=0A=0D=0AWhere: Online through Zoom =0D=0A =0D=0A=0D=0A =0D=0A=0D=0ACost:    Editors Canada members, free; non-members, $10; student=0D=0A non-members, $5=0D=0A=0D=0A Narrative arc=0D=0A describes the way most stories in English-language cultures flow:=0D=0A exposition, inciting incident, rising action, climax, resolution.=0D=0A Creative nonfiction uses the same structure, but whereas fiction=0D=0A authors create a compelling arc for their stories, CNF authors must=0D=0A find the arc in their stories. This can be particularly problematic=0D=0A in memoirs. With historic nonfiction or self-help, there can be more=0D=0A latitude to shape the story. But memoirs are about life, and life=0D=0A rarely happens along a neatly defined arc. What if the inciting=0D=0A incident is the most exciting part of the story? What if the climax=0D=0A is known at the outset?where's the narrative arc in that? In this=0D=0A presentation, we'll explore how editors can help shape the narrative=0D=0A arc in creative nonfiction.=0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0A =0D=0A About the speaker=0D=0A =0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0A Lynne Melcombe has=0D=0A been writing and editing professionally for nearly 40 years. Her=0D=0A experience covers the map from freelance journalism to media=0D=0A relations, conference note taking to marketing communications, copy=0D=0A editing web materials to coaching emerging nonfiction writers.
