He is a Consultant Child and=0D=0A    Adolescent Psychotherapist at the Tavistock Centre where he has=0D=0A    worked for over 20 years, and he has been adult Psychotherapist for=0D=0A    about 35 years. Formerly Associate Clinical Director of the=0D=0A    Tavistock Clinic?s Child and Family Department, he has developed=0D=0A    many innovative programs, including setting up services in over 40=0D=0A    schools and a range of services working with the aftermath of child=0D=0A    maltreatment and neglect. His clinical specialty for decades been=0D=0A    understanding and working with trauma. He supervises and teaches=0D=0A    nationally and internationally and has a particular interest in=0D=0A    linking cutting-edge developmental findings with therapeutic=0D=0A    practice. His most recent publication is Womb Life: Wonders and=0D=0A    Challenges of Pregnancy, the Foetus' Journey and Birth (2024). His=0D=0A    publications include  Nurturing Natures: (2023, 2016, 2010),=0D=0A    Respark: Igniting Hope and Joy after trauma and depression, (2022),=0D=0A    Affect and Emotion (2022, 2001), Nurturing Children: From Trauma to=0D=0A    Hope (2019), The Good Life (2014), as well as co-editing From Trauma=0D=0A    to Harming Others (2022). =0D=0A=0D=0A  DATES & TIME:  =0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0A  =0D=0A    February 28, 2026  9:00 am - 12:00 pm EST=0D=0A  =0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0A  =0D=0A    The seminar is held online via Zoom videoconference=0D=0A  =0D=0A=0D=0A  =0D=0A    ABOUT THIS PROGRAM=0D=0A  =0D=0A=0D=0A=0D=0A  In this talk Graham Music will=0D=0A    introduce ways of understanding and working with more shut-down=0D=0A    states. He will first introduce some key concepts such as ?spark?=0D=0A    energy, nervous system whispering, and the embodied=0D=0A    countertransference. He will then address the profound effects of=0D=0A    emotional neglect and the kind of lifelessness that can arise from=0D=0A    this. Next, he will look at numbing after trauma, which can seem=0D=0A    similar in terms of lifelessness to neglect, but have different=0D=0A    aetiology and require different therapeutic techniques. This=0D=0A    material will be brought together with clinical examples. New=0D=0A    science combined with psychoanalytic understandings will suggest=0D=0A    what can help shift people from ?desparked?, lifeless, unenergised=0D=0A    states to more hopeful and joyous states.
