DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:The Coastal Personal Survival Course is a 1 day=0D=0A  course for experienced sailors who are participating in World Sailing=0D=0A  Offshore Special Regulations (OSR) Category 3-4 and/or US SER Coastal=0D=0A  Category passages or events such as the Southern Straits Race, Patos=0D=0A  Island Race, and Swiftsure Race.  The course includes both classroom=0D=0A  and practical sessions and is Sail Canada approved. =0D=0A=0D=0ACoastal Personal Survival Course topics include a review of=0D=0A  required/recommended safety equipment, preparing heavy weather sails,=0D=0A  obtaining and interpreting local weather forecasts, hypothermia and=0D=0A  cold water immersion, crew overboard, emergency signals and communications.  =0D=0A=0D=0AParticipants are required to bring to the course the personal safety=0D=0A  gear that they intend to use in the Southern Straits Race, Patos=0D=0A  Island Race, Swiftsure Race, or a similar overnight, near-coastal race=0D=0A  or passage.  This should include a suitable PFD, safety harness,=0D=0A  tether, and personal MOB light.  Wet weather gear, boating footwear=0D=0A  and warm clothing are required for the outdoor practicals.  =0D=0A=0D=0A- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -=0D=0A  - - - =0D=0A=0D=0APrice includes course participation, refreshments and lunches, and=0D=0A  upon successful completion a course certificate valid for five years. =0D=0A=0D=0ARegistrations are cancellable and refundable, less a 25%=0D=0A  administration fee, until 7 calendar days prior to the training start date. =0D=0A=0D=0ATo be valid, cancellation and refund requests must be delivered by=0D=0A  email to sas@bcsailing.bc.ca and=0D=0A  receipt acknowledged within the required time frame.  =0D=0A=0D=0AFor the benefit of participants and event organizing authorities, BC Sailing and Sail Canada may maintain a=0D=0A  publicly-searchable database listing participant names, certificate=0D=0A  numbers and certificate expiry dates. =0D=0A=0D=0A- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -=0D=0A  - - - =0D=0A=0D=0AThe Coastal Personal Survival Course does not include pool=0D=0A  sessions or life raft training, and does not meet the World Sailing=0D=0A  requirements for OSR Category 0-1-2 offshore and oceanic races such as=0D=0A  the Van Isle 360, Vic-Maui, Pacific Cup, Transpac, etc.  To choose the=0D=0A  right training, please visit Personal Survival Training Introduction.  =0D=0A
