Event Description

Join colleagues and learn the history of Turtle Island from long before the settlers arrived, to where we are today! Using the 7 Fires Prophesy as a timeline, the presenter Trish Meekins, will take you on a journey from a First Nations’ perspective. You will learn what it means to be a treaty people in Canada and what you can do, as your part of reconciliation.

Biography of Presenter:

Trish Meekins is a registered social worker and was the 2022 recipient of OASW’s Distinguished Social Worker Award for Huron, Perth, Bruce, and Grey counties! Trish is also a member of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation and a member of the Chippewas of Nawash band. Trish has extensive experience in facilitating, and training agencies and organizations, in many capacities, but her primary training is the history and teachings of her Anishinabek roots.

Trish is the sole proprietor of Nikaanaganaa Counselling & Learning Centre and has recently opened at retail store highlighting First Nations art, jewelry, and crafts, as well as medicines and resources for all to learn more about the Indigenous peoples of Turtle Island.
