 The BCWF Women Outdoors Program and the Lake Windermere District Rod and Gun Club welcome you to our 

Summer 2025 Women Outdoors Weekend 

When: Friday July 11 - Sunday July 13 , 2025

Where: Lake Windermere District Rod and Gun Club

Participate in our outdoor skills weekend for women. All courses are conducted by qualified, patient and supportive instructors in a safe, fun and educational environment.

Cost: $300.00 (+GST) for BCWF or Lake Windermere District Rod and Gun Club members; $400.00 (+GST) for non-members (this includes a one-year membership to the Lake Windermere District Rod & Gun Club which gives you membership to the BC Wildlife Federation).  This fee includes instruction in all sessions, program materials, use of equipment, and meals. 

Participants will be camping for the weekend (and will need to bring their own tent or RV).  The campground is rustic with pull-in sites for trailers and RVs and tenting space available  (no hookups or sewage dump).  You will need to indicate which you prefer during the registration process.

Register now! Space is limited to 30 participants. 

All participants will rotate through the same instructional sessions over the course of the weekend. 

Courses offered at this event will be:

  • Hunting  
    • Learn basics of hunting and taxidermy during this informative session. Cover types of rifles, ammunition, reloading, scopes, and cleaning kits—along with essential safety gear and proper clothing.  Learn key items for a hunting pack and how to trip plan. Learn techniques for field dressing, transportation, skinning, and butchering for clean, quality meat. Lastly, cover taxidermy essentials, including tools, hide preservation, and mounting techniques. 
  • Orientation and Safety
    • cover trip planning for outings, essential equipment, and the role of a contact person in case of emergencies. Address navigation using modern electronic tools available to the public and key considerations for route planning to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
  • Acts and Regulations
    • This open and interactive PowerPoint presentation will cover the role of the Conservation Officer Service and provide a general overview of regulations related to outdoor recreation in BC, with a focus on key information for those new to hunting and fishing. Hands-on items such as the Regulation Synopsis, antlers, horns, predator skulls, and Report All Poachers & Polluters promotional materials will also be available. 
  • Angling
    • essential topics including where to obtain a fishing license, the types available, and how to determine fishing locations, regulations, and catch limits will be covered. Learn about spin casting and fly fishing rods, landing nets, tackle, flies, and lures. The session will also include fish identification for common local species, standard fish cleaning methods, proper fish handling and hook removal, and best practices for preventing the spread of aquatic invasive species. If time allows, there may be an opportunity to practice casting in the field.
  • Shotgun and Shooting
    • This session will cover basic gun handling and safety, including an overview of shotgun types, gauges, and cartridges. Participants will learn about clay target disciplines such as trap, skeet, and sporting clays, along with their variations. Key shooting fundamentals will be introduced, including stance, gun mount, swing, and proper loading and unloading techniques. The session will include a demonstration of shooting 5-stand targets, followed by hands-on practice shooting at clay targets.
  • Archery
    • participants will be introduced to archery range safety and proper shooting techniques. The session will cover different types of bows and the equipment they will be using. Targets will be set at varying distances to ensure an enjoyable experience for all skill levels. As participants shoot, individual guidance will be provided to refine their form for smoother and more efficient shooting.

Cancellation Policy: 

A cancellation fee of $75.00 will be deducted from all cancellations. No refunds will be issued for any cancellation 30 days or less, prior to the Women Outdoors Weekend, except in the case of a proven emergency. Registrants who do not attend and have not cancelled 30 days in advance will forfeit the full registration fee.

  • This is an alcohol & cannabis free event.
  • You must be 19 years of age or older to attend this program.
