Presented by Laura Proctor Elder Abuse Consultant
Financial abuse is a growing concern among older adults in
Ontario, yet it remains one of the most underreported and
misunderstood forms of abuse. This webinar is designed to equip
social workers and other mental health related professionals with

and prevent financial exploitation in their work with older clients.
In this webinar, we will explore the key indicators of financial
abuse, the unique vulnerabilities of older adults, and the social
worker’s role in safeguarding client autonomy and wellbeing. It will
also provide a clear overview of Ontario legislation, including the
Long-Term Care Homes Act, Retirement Homes Act, and Criminal Code of
Canada, with an emphasis on legal responsibilities and reporting procedures.
Participants will examine real-world case examples, learn about
available community and legal supports, and address a critical gap
in practice by helping social workers and allied professionals
confidently recognize and respond to financial abuse—ensuring they
are better equipped to protect vulnerable clients and uphold their
professional and ethical responsibilities.
