This workshop will provide information about the importance of the personal narrative in the grieving process. The aim is to give participants resources, information, and strategies to support those who are grieving through the use of the personal narrative. Discussion will include the current context of grieving in North America, features of the personal narrative, recent research on the personal narrative in terms of grief, benefits of the personal narrative for those who are grieving, specific strategies that can be used to support the creating and sharing of personal narratives, and the use of the personal narrative in situations other than grief. The workshop will also provide information about supporting individuals who are grieving, and specific resources participants might find helpful. Biography of Presenter:Darrin Griffiths, EdD, works as an assistant professor (limited duties) at Western University and is a sessional instructor at OISE/University of Toronto for the Master of Education degree. Darrin is a retired elementary school principal who worked in numerous schools in Hamilton and Toronto, Ontario. His research interests are connected to educational leadership, equity, and social justice. Darrin authored several books including the current one on grief, Goodbye for Now: True stories of life, love, and loss. This book was endorsed by world-renowned grief expert Dr. Alan Wolfelt.
