Description:
This introductory webinar offers social workers a clear and concise
overview of the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA),
focusing on the legal obligations and privacy responsibilities
specific to their profession. Participants will gain a foundational
understanding of the key principles of PHIPA, the types of personal
health information protected by the law, and practical guidance on
safeguarding sensitive information in daily practice. Learners should
attend due to the nature of their work and handling sensitive health
information regularly. This session ensures participants begin with a
clear, practical foundation in PHIPA, equipping them to confidently
meet their privacy obligations and reduce the risk of breaches.
Presenter Bio:
With over twenty years of experience, Nadia Jandali Chao is a
corporate and privacy lawyer recognized for leadership in both private
practice and in-house roles. Formerly General Counsel and Chief
Privacy Officer at Cancer Care Ontario, Nadia managed legal and
privacy teams protecting some of Canada’s most sensitive health data.
Nadia later led legal and privacy functions at a healthtech start-up
before becoming a Partner at Lerners LLP in Toronto, advising clients
on privacy, health law, and risk management. A Certified Information
Privacy Professional (Canada) and IAPP Advisory Board member, Nadia
recently completed her Master of Laws in Privacy and Cybersecurity at
Osgoode Hall and is listed in the 2025 and 2026 edition of Best
Lawyers in Canada for Privacy and Data Security Law.
