Free! Event DescriptionThe social work profession in Canada engages with African, Caribbean and Black identified youth and families through a variety of sectors including, but not limited to education, healthcare, and child welfare. However, traditional Canadian models of care embedded in social work practice marginalize Black communities and engrain anti-Black racism in its delivery. As a result, there is an urgent need to design programs and supports that center Africentric knowledge, practices and models of care that culturally respond to the needs of Black youth, families and communities. This webinar will provide foundational information on Africentric Social Work theory, practices and delivery in individual and community social work practice. This webinar will complement the upcoming Empowering Black Futures & Wellness through Africentric Care courses offered in April & May 2023. This webinar is offered through OASW's Local Engagement Network Program, which builds local connections and communities among OASW members. To support the growth of social workers in Ontario, we are launching a pilot series of unique learning opportunities focused on professional and personal development. Social workers who are not members of OASW can access these offerings at a nominal fee.
