Description:

Building on the webinar, this subsequent interactive workshop provides social workers with an in-depth exploration of the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA) through real-world scenarios and hands-on exercises. Participants will develop advanced knowledge and practical skills to apply privacy laws effectively in their daily work, including how to handle complex situations and respond to potential privacy breaches. Privacy compliance is critical to ethical social work and protecting client trust. This workshop empowers participants to move beyond theory to practical application, strengthening their skills and preparedness to handle privacy challenges with confidence and professionalism.

Presenter Bio:

With over twenty years of experience, Nadia Jandali Chao is a corporate and privacy lawyer recognized for leadership in both private practice and in-house roles. Formerly General Counsel and Chief Privacy Officer at Cancer Care Ontario, Nadia managed legal and privacy teams protecting some of Canada’s most sensitive health data. Nadia later led legal and privacy functions at a healthtech start-up before becoming a Partner at Lerners LLP in Toronto, advising clients on privacy, health law, and risk management. A Certified Information Privacy Professional (Canada) and IAPP Advisory Board member, Nadia recently completed her Master of Laws in Privacy and Cybersecurity at Osgoode Hall and is listed in the 2025 and 2026 edition of Best Lawyers in Canada for Privacy and Data Security Law.
