How to Be the Laziest Editor Possible: Maximizing the Tools in Microsoft Word
 Description

On Saturday, March 25, Editors British Columbia presents two offerings of the half-day seminar “How to Be the Laziest Editor Possible: Maximizing the Tools in Microsoft Word.” The morning session (10 am to 1 pm) is for PC users and the afternoon session (2 pm to 5 pm) is for Mac users.

How to Be the Laziest Editor Possible: Maximizing the Tools in Microsoft Word

10 am to 1 pm (PC only) and 2 pm to 5 pm (Mac only), Saturday, March 25, 2017

Microsoft Word can be simultaneously the simplest and most frustrating piece of computer software editors use daily. During this half-day workshop, you’ll learn how to make this essential tool work better for you, saving your clients money and yourself a hassle as you streamline the editing process. Instead of spending energy beating your head against the monitor “discovering” Word’s features for yourself, join certified trainer Michael Ouchi as he shares tips and tricks for making the most of this common program.

In this three-hour course, participants will learn to configure Microsoft Word for their own preferences. Michael will explain the changes to and newer features of Word, and participants—through practical, hands-on lessons—will sharpen their skills and increase their Microsoft Word knowledge to become the “laziest editors possible.” When the course is completed, participants will be able to:

  • Customize Word to their preferences
  • Understand the new(er) features of Word and how they work together
  • Reduce the amount of time doing routine editing tasks by using shortcuts and creating macros

Workshop outline:

  • Quick access toolbar and keyboard commands
  • Taming autoformatting
  • The many uses of find and replace
  • Track Changes from A to Z
  • Automating routine tasks with macros

This workshop is geared toward all editors who feel that there must be a better or easier way to use this software. Whether you’re a beginner or a more advanced user, Michael will adapt the session to meet your needs, answer your questions and illuminate what you didn’t know you didn’t know.

Participants are required to bring their own laptop (Windows/OS X) with Microsoft Office 2010 or newer (Windows) or Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac or newer (OS X).

Michael Ouchi is a Master Instructor in Office and a Microsoft Certified Trainer with over 20 years’ experience teaching, training and developing workflow solutions for his clients. In addition, he is a storyteller, children’s entertainer and published author.
