Course Description:

Trauma is a universal experience yet an uncommon component of people’s daily conversation. The understanding of “trauma” is frequently misinterpreted, misunderstood and minimized - leaving people responding repeatedly from wounded places, without awareness. An individual’s experience of their live's trauma impacts every area of human functioning: physical, mental, behavioural, social and spiritual. How we respond to and deal with these experiences emerges as our coping strategies - shaping our patterns of behaviour - sometimes limiting our ability to connect with others and engage in our lives.

October 14, 2016: Day One - Introduction will provide a trauma-informed approach to understanding human behaviour. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of why people do what they do. This information is applicable in widely diverse contexts. Whether you are a therapist, teacher, social worker, first responder, barber or taxi driver (anyone who interacts with other people), this workshop will provide a depth of appreciation for the impact of trauma on people’s behaviour. This day will enrich your interactions in every environment you experience.

October 15, 2016: Day Two – Advanced is specifically designed to support health care and education professionals who want to get a more advanced perspective. As professionals, we are more effective practitioners when we understand how our clients’/students’ personal trauma experiences impact their overall healing processes. Whether we work in the intensive care nursery, the school setting, orthopedics, oncology, or geriatrics, this mental health related workshop will help us develop new and impactful skills needed to mobilize the occupational performance of our clients. The upside of this workshop is that you’ll become a more effective supporter to the people you care for, and you are guaranteed to understand yourself more too.

Note – Registrants have the option of registering for Day One OR Day Two only, or both Day One and Day Two
