|EHYC Sailing School - Summer 2019 Programs|
The Eagle Harbour Yacht Club (EHYC) is perched on the beautiful West Vancouver coastline, beside Eagle Harbour Beach where we have a protected harbour within which to offer our summer sailing school and camps.
Our courses run Monday to Friday, including public holidays from 9am to 4pm.
Our address is 5750 Eagle Harbour Road.
We look forward to having your child spend part of the summer with us, enjoying water-based activities with their friends, new and old. This year we continue to offer CANSail courses which allow sailors to spend lots of time on the water learning hands-on sailing skills and progressing through an accredited system of courses. And for kids new and perhaps hesitant to try sailing we have camps that gently introduce them to the water and and the sailing community experience.
Joining our EHYC Junior sailing community also has perks such as the free BBQ lunch cooked up by our coaches on the first Friday of each session. And the Bake & Sail day on the final day where students bring a picnic lunch, baked items to share with friends, and the group sails to Bowen Island for the day.
Each Junior Sailing School student receives a free t-shirt, and parents are provided with a link to action photos of their children on the water throughout the week. Students in the CANSail programs receive an interim progress report and final comment card detailing their child's achievements.
Wet Feet($320) – A gentle one-week introduction to sailing in Optimist dinghies for children 6-9 years of age who have no sailing experience.
Opti CANSail 1($320) - Upon completion of Wet Feet, children 6-9 years of age can begin developing their sailing skills in Optimist dinghies during these one-week courses.
CANSail 1($550) – A two-week course for children 10+ years of age who are beginning their journey in sailing, using double-handed dinghies. This is an entry level course for older children which teaches fundamental sailing skills including basic sheeting, steering, and boat handling on all points of sail. Upon completion, sailors can sail within defined boundaries set by an instructor.
CANSail 2($550) – A two-week course which builds on the skills learned in CANSail 1. This teaches sailors to adjust their bodies and boats for changes in direction and wind speed while sailing, and to perform boat-handling manoeuvres in a controlled manner while in a controlled setting.
CANSail 3($550) – A two-week intermediate sailing course which teaches sailors to integrate the fundamental boat handling manoeuvres and balance with basic tactics and strategy as well as applied sail trim. Sailors are exposed to a greater variety of conditions and participate in a club race or club training camp.
CANSail 4($550) – A two-week advanced sailing course which teaches sailors to perform advanced boat handling manoeuvres in a variety of conditions. Sailors can successfully execute manoeuvres in competitive settings and for tactical and strategic purposes. Sailors participate in a one or two-day regatta.
Eagle Harbour Summer Sailing Camp($320) – For our friends aged 10-14 interested in having a more relaxed experience, we are offering one-week Eagle Harbour Summer Camps for students who would like to spend time on the water trying out sailing under the supervision of a qualified sailing instructor. This week exposes children to recreational sailing skills (no previous experience necessary), fun and cooperative watercraft games, art projects, and some beach, park and hiking activities. This is a great way to make the most of what Eagle Harbour has to offer, taking advantage of the beach, boats, and sharing experiences with friends.
Bring a Buddy and Early Bird Registration
Friendships are an integral part of the fun of sailing, and we encourage you to sign up a buddy to share the experience. By signing up your child with a friend, we will give each of you a 5% discount. As an added incentive, registrations received before May 15th will earn a $30 discount on two week courses and a $15 discount on 1 week courses.
As our courses and camps are focused on water activities, it is important that your child be comfortable around the water and know how to swim. All children will be required to bring and wear a Coast Guard approved life jacket. They also must be prepared to have their swimming levels tested prior to starting lessons.
