Event topic overview:
The IIA Vancouver Island Chapter is thrilled to announce a virtual
lunch-and-learn on ‘The Role of Internal Audit in Business Continuity Management’.
Business disruption is becoming increasingly common. From the current
COVID-19 situation to the daunting threat of climate change, the
prevalence of cyber-attacks, and the growing complexity of supply
chains, operational processes are facing increased risk of failure.
And the cost of those failures is increasing exponentially.
Well-managed business continuity programs are a pervasive mitigating
control for operational risk. No matter how robust its operational
control environment is, every organization needs to know what it will
do if those controls fail. The objectives of this session will be to
discuss what Internal Auditors should consider when performing a
value-added audit of a business continuity program, and to discuss
what other roles Internal Audit can play outside of the more
traditional periodic review of the program.
This session will cover:
- A brief overview of a typical business continuity framework;
- How best to audit the main components of the framework, including
some common pitfalls to avoid;
- A spotlight on what to consider from an audit standpoint as we
respond to and recover from the impacts of COVID-19; and
- Potential roles that IA can play in enhancing and sustaining a
pragmatic program.
We would also like to hear about your experience from both sides of
the audit, so would encourage you to bring the person responsible for
BCM at your organization.
While this event will be hosted virtually, it will still be a great
opportunity to network with your peers and our speaker! Hurry up and register!
