Digital transformation is by no means a new imperative in the
business ecosystem and the pandemic only accelerated it, which has
created both challenges and opportunities for the internal audit
profession. Since 2018, First West Credit Union’s internal audit
function (FWIA) – when it was still a small audit shop – has been on
an exciting transformation journey to be able to respond to the
significant shift to the risk landscape (challenge) and take advantage
of digital capabilities available at our disposal (opportunity). How
else could internal audit continue to provide assurance and insight at
the speed of business, and help strengthen risk management across the organization?
In this session, the speaker will discuss FWIA’s digital
transformation, in the context of its vision and strategy,
methodologies and capabilities, successes and roadmap.
About The Presenter:
Jeff Hong
Jeff is the Director,
Specialized Audits & Initiatives at First West Credit
Union, responsible for delivering technology &
cybersecurity and financial risk audits, as well as maturing
FWIA’s digital strategy and capabilities. Jeff’s natural
curiosity and deep-seated aversion to most things manual
(except manual transmission sports cars) have led to his
passion for technology and internal audit, as well as for
application of the former to the latter (i.e., digital
transformation within internal audit) and vice versa (i.e.,
internal audit of technology areas). While Jeff loves
working in financial services, he has previously worked in
construction, heavy machinery, gaming, government and public
practice as well.
