ARMA Edmonton Presents
The Provincial Archives of Alberta Tour
The Provincial Archives of Alberta preserves the collective memory of Alberta and as such makes available private and government records of provincial significance for research to the public. The Provincial Archives of Alberta operates in accordance with the Historical Resources Act, which provides for the "operation, maintenance, and development of the Provincial Archives of Alberta," as well as for the "acquisition, preservation, publication and public exhibition of documents, parchments, manuscripts, records, books, maps, plans, photographs, magnetic tapes, or other materials regardless of physical form, the preservation of which is in the public’s interest."
What can you expect to find at The Provincial Archives of Alberta…
Some of their notable collections include:
- Records of entertainer Tommy Banks
- The records of Anthony Hlynka, (at one point the only elected representative of Ukrainian descent in the world)
- The diaries of Jack and Gladys Fitzsimmons (chronicling the lives of ordinary Albertans from 1945 until 2000)
Come and join ARMA Edmonton on May 3, 2016 at 10:00 am for a tour of the facility and to find out regulations around the Historical Resources Act.
