CAPCE is designed for NPs, RNs, and RPNs with passion and expertise in palliative care See  Eligibility Criteria  and Pre-requisite:

Learners must have completed the  Fundamentals of Hospice Palliative Care  program within the past five years.

Course Overview

The Comprehensive Advanced Palliative Care Education (CAPCE) program includes up-to-date, best practice and evidence-informed palliative care knowledge, utilizing the innovative Partnering for Palliative Education learning environment, powered by D2L Brightspace.

Over 18 weeks, local palliative care nurse consultant coaches, prepare CAPCE learners to meet the palliative care competencies for nurses as outlined in the Ontario Palliative Care Competency Framework and the Canadian Interdisciplinary Palliative Care Competency Framework.


Included in the CAPCE Curriculum:

  • Self-Directed Reading & Reflection
  • Learning Goals
  • Quizzes
  • Discussion Boards
  • Peer-to-Peer Exchanges

New to CAPCE for 2024/25

  • The Fundamentals Enhanced program is now part of the CAPCE program
  • Completion of the Indigenous Cultural Safety Training, offered through Canadian Virtual Hospice (CVH), is now a required part of CAPCE.  There are five modules in the series, each of which takes approx. one hour to complete, and the course is free of charge - see Instructions for submitting your certificates.  We recommend you complete this training 2-3 weeks in advance of the CAPCE course start date.  To complete the Indigenous Cultural Safety Training, please log into CVH.

  • All coursework/materials provided online
  • Learners must be able to attend all sessions

  • Your coaches will be in touch regarding next steps. 
  • You will be contacted by Brightspace regarding login details for the learning platform.  Be sure to log in within 72 hour to prevent your login from expiring.

  • April 15, 2025  (930-1130am) - Module 4: Cardiac and Respiratory
  • Apr 29, 2025  (930-1130am) - Module 5:  Delirium
  • May 13, 2025  (930-1130am)  - Module 6:Gastrointestinal
  • May 27, 2025  (930-1130am)  -  Module 7: End of Life, Dealth & Grief
  • Jun 10, 2025 (930-1130am)  - Module 8: Bringing it all Together

Full participation is mandatory to receive a certificate.
