Comprehensive Advanced Palliative Care Education (CAPCE) - Winter 2024 (Online)

• Fundamentals of Hospice Palliative Care
• Fundamentals Enhanced

• Facilitation by experienced local palliative care nurse consultant
• Successful completion of Enhanced prepares learners to meet the palliative care competencies for nurses as outlined in the Ontario Palliative Care Competency Framework and Canadian Interdisciplinary Palliative Care Competency Framework

Course Overview

CAPCE is designed to support the development of nurses as leaders with expertise in hospice palliative care to serve as resource professionals in their facilities, agencies and communities.

CAPCE graduates become members of an ever-growing number of local nursing professionals invested in the provision of high-quality, evidence-informed hospice palliative care practice.

Course Structure

• Self-Directed Learning Activities – Learners complete program content online
• Three In-Person Classroom Sessions Learners attend classroom sessions via Zoom actively participate in activities and discussions
• Eight Individual/Small Group Online Coaching Sessions (Approx. 2 hours each) The CAPCE program integrates coaching and mentoring for nurses to help them embrace their professional standards and demonstrate leadership skills as they evolve into the leadership and mentoring role'
• Eight Peer-to-Peer Exchanges Learners connect with a peer to enable collaborative learning and shared solution finding
• Two Practical Application Assignments These are opportunities for learners to apply what they have learned

Winter 2024 Online CAPCE Course

The CAPCE classroom sessions will be held online via Zoom

Between the course Start Date and the first Classroom Session (CS), participants are expected to log into the learning platform to complete Self-Directed Learning Activities. 

• Full participation in is mandatory to receive a certificate.

• Classroom Session 1: Feb 29, 2024 (0900a-1200p) - Occurs During Week 2
• Classroom Session 2: Apr 4, 2024 (0900a-1200p)  -  Occurs During Week 5
• Classroom Session 3: May 30, 2024 (0900a-1200p)  -  Occurs During Week 8
