 Description

Session Description:

8:30am – 11am (with breaks)

Title: “Navigating the Uncharted: the value of digital risk management”
Speakers: Amalia Barthel, Christine Aykac

Outline:

The objective of this presentation is to introduce the audience to digital risk and provide them with an awareness of the broad legal and regulatory environment organizations operate in part of the digital economy.

Typically, the approach to risk management is narrow and confined to a specific role: auditor, cybersecurity professional, project management etc.

Addressing risk in silos is now more than ever, a bigger risk. Let’s take the example of cybersecurity risk:  organizations are fighting attacks daily and are so busy that they miss other risks, such as privacy or vendor risks. IT integrations and transformations often miss the risk that the technology is not compatible with the existing infrastructure and ecosystem or the way in which it is implemented is no longer compatible with newly enacted privacy, data residency or international markets laws.

Digital risk management practices need to expand beyond IT risk-management practices to ensure new initiatives, projects, products, and services stay current with the evolving e-commerce and country or state specific risks and laws as well as the use of ML and artificial intelligence. A risk management team will need to carefully consider the risk impact on the organization’s overall objectives and prospects of growth, especially through third-party partnerships. Their practices and risk are as, if not more, important for an organization.  Return on investment cannot take place at all costs. A lot of organizations have introduced ESG targets which include economic and societal impacts in addition to correct business practices and privacy and respectively cybersecurity positive postures.

Presentation Format:

This two- hour interactive presentation has a workshop component where the audience will be challenged to take a good look in the digital risk management mirror and document their opportunities for growth: personally, in their team and in their organization.

A template will be provided which the participants can fill out and take-away
