Reel Fishing Workshop - May 25th & 26th

The BC Wildlife Federation is excited to welcome you to our May 2019, Reel Fishing workshop in Maple Ridge and Surrey, BC, partnering with the Alouette River Management Society.


This workshop is designed for adults*, 18 years or older, and provides them with an opportunity to further enhance or learn fishing techniques as well as conservation skills in a relaxed and fun environment. All fishing and restoration equipment will be provided for this workshop.  

This unique 2-day workshop introduces participants to local fishing strategies and methods including gear, bait, and locations, participants will also have the ability to create their own personalized lure. During this workshop participants will also learn how to read water to increase their catch, and different approaches to become a more respectful and successful angler. Furthermore, working with local a stream keeper organization, participants will gain experience in fish habitat restoration and participate in a hands-on restoration project. Finally participating in a hands-on fishing portion. During this time participants will be fishign from both a boat and from the shore line. Life jackets will be provided.

Transportation to and from locations is not provided. Participants must provide their own transportation. 

All participants must have a valid BC Freshwater fishing license:


Day 1: 8am - 5:15pm

  1. Fishing workshop - Theory                
    • Location: BCWF Office
    • Highlights: Choosing the right gear, how to read water and catch more fish, lure making, be respectful towards fish, anglers and environment among other skills
  2. Habitat restoration project - Hands-on
    • Location: Morse Creek, Reg Franklin Park
    • Highlights: Invasive plant removal, planting native plants, fish counting, and more 

Day 2: 8am - 3:30pm

  1. Fishing workshop - Practical
    • Location Buntzen lake 
    • Fishing with experienced instructors
    • Fishing from a boat
