Reel Fishing Workshop - October 19th & 20th
 Description

 

 

The BC Wildlife Federation is excited to welcome you to our October 2019, Reel Fishing River workshop.

Overview: 

This workshop is designed for adults* and provides them with an opportunity to further enhance or learn fishing techniques as well as conservation skills in a relaxed and fun environment. All fishing and restoration equipment will be provided for this workshop.  

This unique 2-day workshop introduces participants to local fishing strategies and methods including gear, bait, location and participants will also have the ability to create their own personalized trout lure. During this workshop participants will learn how to read water to increase their catch potential, and different approaches to become a more respectful and successful angler. Working with a local stream keeper organization, participants will gain experience in fish habitat restoration and participate in a hands-on restoration project. Finally participating in a fishing day at one of our local lakes. 

Transportation to and from locations is not provided. Participants must provide their own transportation. 

All participants must have a valid BC Freshwater fishing license. This can be obtained through the follwoing website: https://j100.gov.bc.ca/pub/ras/signin.aspx

Highlights:

Day 1: 8am - 4:00pm

  1. Fishing workshop - Theory                
    • Location: BC WIldlife Federation Office, Surrey 
    • Highlights: Choosing the right gear, how to read water and catch more fish, lure making, be respectful towards fish, anglers and environment among other skills
  2. Habitat restoration project - Hands-on
    • Location: Reg. Franklyn Park, Maple Ridge     
    • Highlights: Invasive plant removal, planting native plants, fish counting, and more 

Day 2: 8:00am - 1:00pm

  1. Fishing workshop - Practical 
    • Target species: Rainbow and Cutthroat trout  
    • Buntzen lake, Anmore  
    • Fishing with experienced instructors
